Infant Swaddling
I’d like to talk briefly about the topic of conversation in the office. Infant swaddling. I notice so many babies who are swaddled in the evening because parents believe that it helps their infants to sleep better and for longer periods of time. So, what I want you to know is that swaddling is great for a brand-new baby. But by the time they’re about three months old, you should be starting to wean them from the swaddle. I know, parents, that this is stressful, and the first night the baby might have a bad night and keep you up more than usual.
But you have to stick with it. It probably takes up to a week until they get used to it. But by the time they’re three months old they need their arms and legs free for proper neurological development. You can ask me more about it in the office if you want more specifics. But it is very important to allow the baby to have freedom of their hands and feet when they’re beginning to recognize that they have control over them.
