More Bad News About Tech Neck
This is Dr. Jean-Marc Slak in Burlington. Really cool study I just got a hold of today. You know I love to read, and here is another one. This one was just published in The Journal of Gait and Posture. A brand new article that correlates and measures the impact of Forward Head Posture with how the autonomic nervous system functions, and how the body perceives itself in space.
What they found is that a Forward Head Posture has a very significant negative effect on the autonomic nervous system function. That’s your digestion, your hormone levels, your immune system, all of the functions your body does automatically without you thinking about it. Forward head Posture also affects the perception of the body in space, which means that you’re much more likely to have pain and get injured.
Forward head Posture can be a result of spending a lot of time on technology. What we see with Forward Head Posture is that the head moves in front of the shoulders. Normally, the ears should be on top of the shoulders. And this is a change that chiropractic care can produce. What it means is that the autonomic nervous system is going to improve, immune system, digestion, hormone… as well as the sensory-motor function, your ability to feel yourself in space accurately. The result is that you are going to prevent injuries, reduce injuries, and reduce pain.
Chiropractic care is pivotal for your continued health and adaptation. But you also should be thinking about how much time you’re spending with your head down. Some studies are talking about 5,000 hours a year for teenagers on technology. It’s almost insurmountable. We need these people checked, adjusted, and we need them to be conscious about what they do with that technology.
Here we are in Burlington with Dr. Nicole, Dr. Linda, and myself. We can’t wait to see you and help you stand up straight.
